ELECTIONS ADVOCACY
Elections are a powerful opportunity to raise our voices and push for bold, transformative action to reshape Canada’s healthcare system so it better meets the needs of all Canadians.
Let’s work together to ensure that the role of occupational therapists is fully valued and recognized, and that the OT workforce is empowered, mobilized, and supported to work to its full scope of practice.
Engage with all candidates
Engage with all candidates when they come to your door. Ask about their awareness of occupational therapy. Here are some things to talk about:
Tell them about the impact you make as an OT in your practice setting, and let them know about the challenges you face.
Encourage them to learn more about OTs in their riding.
Ask about their healthcare priorities.
Write a letter
Write a letter to your local member of parliament or provincial elected officials.

Get out the vote!
On election day, vote - and call and encourage others to do the same.
Engage on social media
Engage with candidates and political parties on social media. Tag them in your post.
Here are some examples:
As an OT working in [practice setting] I see firsthand the need for more OTs to meet the needs in [area of practice]. We need a workforce strategy that prioritizes access to care for Canadians – wherever they live, work and play.
